Over this HOY summer the system has been getting sporadic problems particularly for those using the 'workshop' repeater at the junction of Riverside and Bankside. We are aware of the problems and have identified the cause which is overheating of the repeater transmitter located in the wooden building. We have attempted to correct this with further fans but, as yet, this has not provided a full solution. To put this in perspective Telefonica is also itself having the same heat issues (which are compounding our problems) and has sporadically lost the its radio lines in Alicante, Almeria, Madrid and Granada. Although a line from Telefonica comes to the site this eventually goes through their own radio link!
We are working on the issue to get it corrected as quickly as possible.

In late September or October we plan to upgrade the system with a new main professional and powerful router in the office together with a higher antenna to get over the tree problem in the Summer. This will also provide greater security for everybody since each home will receive a dedicated IP number as well as a locked MAC address system.

We have also applied to Telefonica for a second ADSL line and for an increase to our bandwidth. If they supply either or both this will increase the speed and reliability of the entire system.

We also plan in the last quarter of this year to put in a remote support system for computer problems where you will be able to obtain FULL remote support and software 'repairs' without further charge.

New Flexibility for Portable Apps

We are now able to offer with Portable Apps and Thunderbird
full access to emails (sending and receiving) for

Hotmail
Gmail
AOL
Yahoo
Lycos
Mail.com

A small program has to be loaded into Thunderbird which allows access to the above systems with the complete flexibility that Thunderbird offers on a memory stick.
This does not effect the Cherribar email system.

The files can be downloaded onto your stick for you to install or they can be installed for you.
Next visit is planned for for sometime in June, depending on Richard's medical situation and we will have the files available for install or download.

For those who use Cherribar emails please remember NOT to leave emails on the server as they take up space and could stop you getting new emails. Always download the emails to your computer and delete them from the server. Portable Apps would do this automatically for you.
